Tradition often calls for Valentine\u2019s Day wine to be sweet – or at least to have a noticeable residual sugar content. And it makes sense: sugar means dopamine, which means pleasure.
A wine with significant residual sugar – semi-sweet or sweet – is usually made from late-harvest grapes or, in extreme cases, those harvested in freezing temperatures. At Jidvei<\/strong><\/a>, every December or January, 500 workers hand-pick grapes from 11 hectares of Traminer Roz, early in the morning, after at least three consecutive days of temperatures between -7\u00b0C and -10\u00b0C. It takes 7\u201310 kilograms of grapes to produce just one liter of wine. This is Eiswein<\/strong> – the German name honours the Saxon settlers who dubbed Transylvania \u201cWeinland\u201d (Land of Wine) – and it\u2019s a must-try at least once. <\/span><\/p>

Just a bit earlier, when the first frost hits the vineyard, Tohani<\/strong><\/a> harvests T\u0103m\u00e2ioas\u0103 Rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 for their Flori de Ghea\u021b\u0103<\/strong> (Ice Flowers) wine. So, if you\u2019re looking for something special, you have some options.
Also from Dealu Mare, and also made from T\u0103m\u00e2ioas\u0103 Rom\u00e2neasc\u0103, but only semi-sweet and harvested in late September, is Cuv\u00e9e Lysandre<\/strong> from SERVE<\/strong><\/a> – an elegant, complex wine with balanced acidity, basil and rose aromas wrapped in honeycomb and juicy ripe fruit notes. <\/span><\/p>

Sweet wines seem to be the destiny of T\u0103m\u00e2ioas\u0103 Rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 – from Dr\u0103g\u0103\u0219ani, you\u2019ll find a similar offer: Cuv\u00e9e Amelie<\/strong> from Avincis<\/strong><\/a>, a dessert wine with floral notes and a stronger focus on tropical fruits, apricots, and peaches.<\/span><\/p>

No discussion of semi-sweet and semi-dry wines is complete without mentioning the seductive Busuioac\u0103 de Bohotin<\/strong>, which you can find in multiple versions at Domeniile Avere\u0219ti<\/strong><\/a>: Diamond Junior (semi-sweet)<\/strong> and Spectrum (semi-dry)<\/strong>, the latter produced exclusively for Carrefour\u2019s Deschidem Vinul Rom\u00e2nesc<\/strong> program – perfect for celebrating at home.

And since we\u2019re talking about Vintruvian wines, let\u2019s not forget about Crama DeMatei<\/strong><\/a> and their Patima dup\u0103 Matei<\/strong>, Feteasc\u0103 alb\u0103 Single Vineyard.<\/strong> This is a terroir-driven wine, complex and revealing itself slowly – savory and full of stories.<\/span><\/p>

We can\u2019t talk about Dealu Mare without mentioning another classic from this region – Chardonnay Gramofon Wine. <\/a><\/strong>This wine is born from an alchemic play with multiple Chardonnay clones, each expressing its own unique character. The best blends (though technically a single-varietal wine) make it into this exclusive GW collection. A true delight for those who enjoy denser white wines.

Any ros\u00e9 lover should taste this at least once because once you do, you\u2019ll keep coming back to it. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, it\u2019s delicate yet intense, complex yet refined. At first glance, it seems understated – but that\u2019s just its subtle charm.

A bit bolder, slightly more intense and powerful, but also from Dealu Mare, Sonorum Ros\u00e9 from Gramofon Wine<\/strong> is a Merlot and Feteasc\u0103 Neagr\u0103 blend. So, for red wine lovers, we have just two words: Feteasc\u0103 Neagr\u0103?<\/span><\/p>

Why? Well, the name says it all – \u201cFeteasc\u0103\u201d (maiden\u2019s). This native Romanian grape has been extensively studied by winemakers over the past 20\u201330 years, with more outstanding versions emerging every year. It\u2019s the variety that carries the biggest hopes for gaining international recognition – so why not start here?

First, a winery famous for Feteasc\u0103 Neagr\u0103 (and Chardonnay, to be fair): Gramofon<\/strong><\/a>.
There\u2019s a lot to say about their wines, but to play it safe, let\u2019s go with their classic Feteasc\u0103 Neagr\u0103<\/strong><\/a> – the flagship wine of the winery. Still from Dealu Mare, another Feteasc\u0103 Neagr\u0103 has won major international medals and is frequently listed among must-try wines for enthusiasts: Patima dup\u0103 Matei<\/strong> from Crama DeMatei<\/strong><\/a>. Though it may seem reserved for connoisseurs, this wine is actually an excellent introduction to the power of this grape variety and the terroir of Dealu Mare, even for beginners. <\/span><\/p>

Moving to a sunnier region – Dobrogea, but still crafted by Vintruvian Estates<\/strong>, we find Epiphanie<\/strong>. Its name is not an exaggeration for those who have had the chance to taste it. This Feteasc\u0103 Neagr\u0103 is bolder, richer, and more modern than its Dealu Mare counterpart – yet, over time, it mellows and reveals its complexity to those willing to explore. <\/span><\/p>

Traditionally, Feteasc\u0103 Neagr\u0103 is said to have originated in Moldova, so we couldn\u2019t overlook a version from a cooler climate. Feteasc\u0103 Neagr\u0103 Barrique<\/strong> Diamond Junior from Domeniile Avere\u0219ti<\/strong><\/a> is rich with dried fruit, plum jam, smoked prunes, and hints of chocolate and vanilla. Over time, it opens up to brighter fruit and spice notes – a quiet, reliable companion that doesn\u2019t demand center stage but could easily take it. <\/span><\/p>

And for the grand finale, a truly special wine – Feteasc\u0103 Neagr\u0103 Magnaluna<\/strong>, the only biodynamic Feteasc\u0103 Neagr\u0103 in Romania (and, by default, the world). Crafted by Domeniul Bogdan<\/strong><\/a>, this wine is available exclusively through Carrefour\u2019s<\/strong> Deschidem Vinul Rom\u00e2nesc<\/strong> program. It\u2019s a solid, complex wine with balanced structure, fruit, acidity, and tannins – velvety, well-rounded, and extremely drinkable. <\/span><\/p>
