Hills of Oltenia<\/b><\/li><\/ul><p><b>History  <\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a document dated January 8, 1407, Mircea the Elder (1386-1418) donates and establishes <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cozia Monastery <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">[4] with a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">howitzer<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> [5] of wheat and <\/span><b>wine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In 1532,  <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vlad the Undead<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> [6]<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  he donates to Hamza, great banker (Banu Maracine) of Jiu and Craiova, Craiova with all its villages and vineyards In 1557, in an official document, Patrascu the Good (father of Michael the Brave), donated as dowry &#8220;the lands of Segarce, to his daughter, Maria&#8221;. The cellar of the royal family of Romania produced  <\/span><b>sparkling wines<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the highest quality in Segarcea, even before the First World War (according to the publication &#8220;Buletinul Agriculturii&#8221; vol. IV, 1923).<\/span><\/p><p><b>Terroir<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <\/span><\/p><p><b>Relief<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Oltenia occupies, in southern Romania, the hilly area bordered by the Danube, the Southern Carpathians and the Olt river; From <\/span><b>slopes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  line, sunny at the base of the hills, on slopes with somewhat steeper gradients in the submontane hills of the Mehedinti PDO. The front slopes of the hills are around 5\u00b0;  <\/span><b>Exhibition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">S, S-E;  <\/span><b>Altitude<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: 90-400 m;  <\/span><b>Soil<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  [2]: entric alluvium, cambic, clayey and bathyglic cernozoic, eutricambosol typical and reddish, luvosol reddish, whitish and stagnant, gleiosol, preluvosol reddish, typical and lamellar, rocky and sandy, vertisol;  <\/span><b>Multiannual average temperature<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: 10,6-11,6<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">o<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">C;  <\/span><b>Precipitation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: 500-560 mm multiannual average;  <\/span><b>Check<\/b> <b>heatwave<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with more than 50  <\/span><b>tropical days<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  annual;  <\/span><b>Ierni<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  moderate (21-30 days annually). 2100-2200  <\/span><b>hours of sunshine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> annually. <\/span><b>Climate extremes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can be <\/span><b>late frosts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>hail<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Stormwater drains outwards only to a very small extent in the vicinity of the slopes, and the rest infiltrates into the soil, accumulating on the surface or on the soil profile in crocks where it can pool for a long time.
