Domeniul Coroanei Segarcea

Founded in 1884 as part of the 12 domains offered for administration to the Royal House of Romania, the Segarcea Crown Domain had the role of supporting the diplomatic expenses of the monarchy in the difficult context after the War of Independence. Until 1947, the domain significantly contributed to the revitalization of Romanian viticulture, contributing to the replanting of vineyards affected by phylloxera, the concept of Designation of Controlled Origin, and serving as a technological and oenological model for other producers. After the privatization in 2002, the Domeniul Coroanai Segarcea was reborn, the replantings being carried out under the supervision of François Morisson-Couderc, the descendant of the winegrower Georges Couderc, who led the first process of suitability of grape varieties to the terroir, at the beginning of the 20th century. In 2010, the domain again became the official supplier of the Royal House of Romania, re-entering the historical womb. Today, Domeniul Coroanei Segarcea has hundreds of international medals in its record and owns one of the most modern gravity wineries in Eastern Europe. Here you can discover varieties that are unique or rarely found in Romania, such as Tâmiaoasa roza, Touriga Nacional, Marselan and Viognier.
