The first mention of viticulture in the Sâmburești area dates back to 1638 when the position of cupbearer was recorded. Around 1800, the estate came into the possession of the Brătianu family, and Vintilă Brătianu replanted the vineyards with French varieties on the recommendation of oenologist August Joseph Ville. This decision contributed to international recognition, culminating in a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1926. In 2005, Jean Valvis, founder of the Dorna and LaDorna brands, took over the vineyard to revitalize the fame of Sâmburești wines. Today, Sâmburești Estates owns 500 hectares of vineyards at Câmpu Mare and Sâmburești, located on plateaus and sun-exposed slopes, creating an ideal microclimate. Both red and white varieties are grown here, and they have a reputation for quality. The wines produced at Sâmburești have won international awards, including a gold medal for Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 at the Beijing International Wine Fair and a silver medal for Merlot 2010 from the Château Valvis collection.
