The vineyards at Alexandrion Rhein 1892 Estates, known as the first Romanian wine producer to receive the Grand Gold Medal at the "Concours Mondial de Bruxelles," cover more than 250 hectares in the renowned Dealu Mare wine region, also called the "land of red wines." The terroir in this area enjoys a warm and dry climate, long autumns, and soils rich in marine fossils, providing a growing season of 210 to 240 days, essential for the optimal ripening of the grapes. The winery cultivates a variety of grape varieties, both indigenous and international, including Pinot Grigio, Viognier, Fetească Regală, Chardonnay, Fetească Neagră, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Rhein & Cie Azuga 1892 cellars, built at the request of King Carol I, are a symbol of sparkling wine production in Romania and are the oldest in the country to use the traditional method. The Rhein Extra sparkling wine has gained international recognition since its early days, even featured at King Ferdinand’s coronation ceremony in 1922.
