Jelna Winery

The Jelna Winery, founded in 2016, is located in the Lechința wine-growing area, close to Bistrița, in a region with a wine-growing tradition of over 250 years. Ovidiu and Daniel Moldovan, the brothers who founded this winery, cultivate 26 hectares of vines, using varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Fetească Albă, Fetească Regală, Muscat Ottonel, and Pinot Noir. They aim to revive the viticultural traditions of the Jelna area, mentioned on the Josephine map of 1766. The winery produces 80,000 bottles of craft wine annually, with expansion plans to 100,000-120,000. Oenologist Darius Pripon’s talent contributes to the wines’ success by combining tradition with innovation and adapting each wine to the specifics of the year and the grapes. State-of-the-art technology is used in the winemaking process, and the wines are matured in oak barrels, which gives them complexity. The Moldovan family plans to plant new grape varieties, including Fetească Neagră, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as rare native varieties. The winery offers visitors a complete experience featuring a hotel, spa, and restaurant.
