Corcova, Roy & Damboviceanu

The Corcova, Roy & Dâmboviceanu winery is located in Mehedinți, a wine region with historical roots dating back to the 16th century. On July 1, 1594, Mihai Viteazul granted Necula the right to two vineyards in Corcova. Through another decree on July 8, 1596, he confirmed Radu, the second cupbearer, as the owner of vineyards in Jirov, Cernaia, Cotoroaia, and Valea Bună.  The 19th century marked the peak of the Bibescu estate, which turned Corcova into a center of viticultural excellence. French agronomist Aristoteles Sauget, employed by the Bibescu family, contributed to the creation of famous blends like Corcovin and Corcovel, based on Cabernet Sauvignon—wines that became historic but could not be reproduced during the communist era.  The wines from Corcova inspired renowned writers such as Marcel Proust and Mihail Sebastian, and the cultural connection to literature continues today, with the winery supporting artistic initiatives. After 2005, Michel Roy and Șerban Dâmboviceanu revived the abandoned vineyards, modernized the historical cellars by Prince Antoine Bibescu, invested in state-of-the-art technology, and replanted 70 hectares of vines.
